About Chakk De America

Chakk De America is an independent publication about the first months and everything next to it. It exists because the useful version of this subject is usually the one nobody has time to write.

Our house style is practical, unsentimental, written by people who have done the queueing. We would rather publish one piece that holds up than five that fill a schedule.

What we cover

The site is organised into 6 sections:

• The First Months — The unglamorous logistics of the first ninety days, in the order they actually hit you.
• Visas & Paperwork — How the forms, statuses and renewals fit together, in plain language.
• Work & Careers — Finding the job, reading the offer, and how workplaces here differ from the ones you left.
• Money & Credit — Building a credit file from nothing, banking, tax and sending money home.
• Housing & Daily Life — Leases, cars, insurance, healthcare and the hundred small systems nobody explains.
• Community & Culture — Food, festivals, homesickness and finding your people in a new city.

Who writes it

Every article carries a named writer with a profile page, and nothing is published anonymously. You can see the full list on our writers page.

How it is funded

Advertising pays for this site. It does not buy coverage, placement or a favourable word, and our editorial policy sets out exactly how that separation works.
